Cider is a drink made from pressed apples.
In American usage, cider usually means fresh, unfiltered apple juice—what the British call apple juice.
In British usage and increasingly worldwide, cider is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting apple juice: a pint of cider, hard cider.
Americans specify hard cider for the alcoholic version.
Cider can also be made from other fruits: pear cider.
