Lake Placid
Winter Olympics host
Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains of New York State, known as a winter sports destination.
It hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980—the latter famous for the U.S. hockey team's "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union.
The name comes from the calm lake at its center.
