Catskills

Upstate resort mountains

The Catskills are a mountainous region in southeastern New York State, part of the Appalachian uplift.

Long a retreat from New York City, the area became famous for its resorts—particularly the Jewish resort hotels of the mid-twentieth century, known as the Borscht Belt, which launched many comedians' careers.

We spent summers in the Catskills.
