Schindler

Factory owner savior

Schindler refers to Oskar Schindler (1908–1974), a German industrialist who saved over a thousand Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his factories.

His story became widely known through the 1993 film *Schindler's List*.

A Schindler's list has become shorthand for any roster of people saved from catastrophe, and Schindler sometimes describes someone who risks everything to protect the vulnerable.
