Mussolini

Italy's wartime tyrant

Mussolini refers to Benito Mussolini (1883–1945), the Italian fascist dictator who ruled Italy from 1922 until his overthrow in 1943.

He founded the fascist movement, allied with Nazi Germany, and was executed by partisans.

The name now evokes authoritarian nationalism and theatrical strongman politics: He fancies himself a Mussolini, strutting around barking orders.
