San Francisco is a city in Northern California, built on a hilly peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay.
Known for the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, and Victorian architecture, the city has been central to American cultural movements—the Gold Rush, the Beat Generation, the Summer of Love, and gay rights.
