Airbnb
Vacation rental platform
Airbnb is an online platform connecting travelers with people renting out lodging—typically private homes, apartments, or rooms rather than traditional hotels.
The name blends "air bed" (the founders' first offering) with "bed and breakfast." As a verb, to Airbnb a property is to rent it out through the service: She Airbnbs her spare bedroom to tourists.
The platform has spawned imitators and controversy over its effects on housing markets.
