Kremlin
Red Square landmark
The Kremlin is the fortified complex in central Moscow that serves as the official residence of Russia's president and the seat of Russian government.
By metonymy, the Kremlin means the Russian government itself, especially in matters of foreign policy and power politics: The Kremlin issued a statement denying involvement, Kremlin officials refused to comment.
During the Soviet era, it referred to Soviet leadership. (Lowercase kremlin is any Russian citadel.)
