German Empire
Bismarck's unified nation
The German Empire was the nation-state unifying German territories under Prussian leadership from 1871 to 1918.
Proclaimed at Versailles after the Franco-Prussian War, it became a major European power under Kaiser Wilhelm I and Chancellor Bismarck.
The empire collapsed following defeat in World War I, replaced by the Weimar Republic.
Also called the Second Reich.
