Weimar
Thuringian cultural capital
Weimar is a city in central Germany associated with two distinct historical periods.
The Weimar Republic (1919–1933) was Germany's democratic government between World War I and Hitler's rise—Weimar democracy, Weimar era.
The city was also home to Goethe and Schiller, making it a symbol of German high culture.
Weimar Germany often evokes political instability, cultural ferment, and democratic fragility.
