Red Army

Bolshevik military force

The Red Army was the military force of the Soviet Union from 1918 to 1946, named for the red flag of communism.

The term persists in historical discussions of World War II's Eastern Front, where the Red Army bore the brunt of fighting against Nazi Germany: The Red Army captured Berlin in 1945.

Sometimes used loosely for any Soviet or Russian military force.
