Poitiers

Medieval battle site

Poitiers is a city in west-central France, capital of the Vienne department.

It was the site of two major battles: Charles Martel's defeat of Muslim forces in 732, which checked Islamic expansion into Western Europe, and the English victory over the French in 1356 during the Hundred Years' War.

The Battle of Poitiers changed the course of European history.
