lectures

Classroom spoken lessons

Lectures are formal talks given to instruct an audience, typically in academic settings: The professor's lectures on medieval history drew large crowds.

A lecture can also be a lengthy scolding or moralizing speech: I got a lecture from my mom about staying out too late.

To lecture is to deliver such talks, or to reprimand at length.
