portals
Passages between realms
Portals are doorways or gates, especially grand or imposing ones: the portals of the cathedral.
The word suggests a threshold between realms—hence its adoption for website entry points that aggregate content and services: Yahoo was once the dominant internet portal.
In fantasy and science fiction, a portal is a magical or technological passage to another place or dimension: a portal opened in the sky.
