Ural Mountains
Europe-Asia continental divide
The Ural Mountains are a north-south mountain range in western Russia, traditionally considered the boundary between Europe and Asia.
Stretching roughly 1,500 miles from the Arctic Ocean to Kazakhstan, they are among the world's oldest mountains, worn low by erosion.
The region is rich in minerals and was central to Soviet industrialization: The Urals became a wartime manufacturing hub.
