October Revolution

Lenin's 1917 seizure

The October Revolution was the 1917 Bolshevik seizure of power in Russia, overthrowing the provisional government and establishing communist rule.

Despite its name, it occurred in November by the modern calendar—Russia still used the Julian calendar, which ran thirteen days behind.

The revolution led to the formation of the Soviet Union and shaped twentieth-century geopolitics.

The October Revolution marked the beginning of the Soviet era.
