LaserDisc
Pre-DVD format
LaserDisc was an optical disc format for video, preceding DVDs by nearly two decades.
The discs were 12 inches in diameter—the size of vinyl LPs—and offered superior picture quality to VHS tapes, though they couldn't record.
Popular among videophiles and in Japanese markets, LaserDisc never achieved mainstream success in the U.S. before DVD rendered it obsolete.
Also spelled Laserdisc.
