GeoCities

Early personal websites

GeoCities was a free web hosting service that let users create personal websites organized into themed "neighborhoods"—SiliconValley for tech, Hollywood for entertainment, Paris for romance.

At its peak in the late 1990s, it was one of the most visited sites on the Internet.

Yahoo acquired it in 1999 and shut it down in 2009.

GeoCities became synonymous with the early amateur web: garish backgrounds, animated GIFs, under-construction signs, and guestbooks.

Her website looked like a GeoCities page from 1998.
