Netscape Navigator

Early web explorer

Netscape Navigator was a pioneering web browser that dominated the early commercial internet in the mid-1990s.

Released by Netscape Communications Corporation in 1994, it was the first browser widely adopted by ordinary computer users and helped popularize the World Wide Web.

Navigator's rapid rise and subsequent defeat by Microsoft's Internet Explorer in the "browser wars" became a landmark antitrust case.

The name now serves as shorthand for the dawn of mainstream internet use.
