AltaVista
Pioneering web index
AltaVista was a pioneering internet search engine launched in 1995, notable for being one of the first to index full text of web pages and offer advanced search features.
It dominated web search before Google's rise and introduced innovations like natural language queries and multilingual search.
The name, Spanish for "high view," suggested its broad perspective on web content.
Yahoo acquired AltaVista in 2003 and eventually shut it down in 2013, redirecting users to Yahoo Search.
