hit counter
Website visit tally
A hit counter is a tool that tracks and displays how many times a webpage has been visited.
Common on personal websites in the 1990s and early 2000s, hit counters often appeared as animated digit displays at the bottom of pages: Proud to announce we've reached 10,000 hits!
The feature has largely disappeared as web analytics moved behind the scenes.
