ICQ
Pioneering instant messenger
ICQ was an early instant messaging service, launched in 1996, that pioneered real-time online chat between individuals.
The name sounds out "I seek you." Users were identified by unique numbers rather than usernames: My old ICQ number was 7654321.
Though largely obsolete, ICQ influenced all subsequent messaging platforms.
