GAS

Strep bacteria shorthand

In chemistry, a gas is a substance in its least dense form, like oxygen or hydrogen.

In a car, the gas is gasoline, which powers the engine.

In American usage, gas may also stand for natural gas, the kind used to heat homes.

If you run out of gas, you run out of energy.

Gas up means to refuel a car.

To gas someone may mean to poison them with gas, to talk too much, or to anesthetize them, depending on context.
