gas mask
Toxin breathing shield
A gas mask is a protective device worn over the face to filter out toxic gases, chemical agents, or airborne particles.
It typically covers the nose and mouth—or the entire face—and uses filters or a sealed air supply.
Gas masks became iconic in World War I, when chemical warfare first appeared on a large scale: soldiers fumbling for their gas masks as mustard gas rolled across the trenches.
They remain standard military equipment and appear in emergency preparedness contexts.
