flatulence
Digestive tract gas
Flatulence is the presence of gas in the digestive system, or the expulsion of that gas through the anus—farting.
The term is slightly clinical, often used to discuss the condition rather than individual instances: Certain foods cause flatulence.
Extended to mean empty, pompous speech: political flatulence.
