Brand

A person's surname

A brand is a name, symbol, or design that identifies a product or company and distinguishes it from competitors: Nike is one of the most recognized brands in the world.

The word comes from burning a mark into something—cattle are branded to show ownership, and criminals were once branded as punishment.

A brand can also be a particular type or variety: a strange brand of humor.

To brand someone is to mark them with a lasting label, often negative: He was branded a traitor.
