Algonquin

Northeastern woodland people

Algonquin refers to a group of Indigenous peoples originally inhabiting the Ottawa River valley and surrounding regions of Quebec and Ontario.

The term also designates their Algonquian language.

Algonquin is sometimes confused with Algonquian, the broader language family that includes Algonquin along with Ojibwe, Cree, and many other languages: The Algonquin are one of many Algonquian-speaking peoples.
