Samuel de Champlain
Samuel de Champlain was a French explorer and navigator who founded Quebec City in 1608 and is often called "the Father of New France." He mapped much of northeastern North America, established diplomatic relations with Indigenous peoples, and made over twenty voyages across the Atlantic.
Lake Champlain, on the New York-Vermont border, bears his name.
