Afrikaans
South African tongue
Afrikaans is a language spoken primarily in South Africa and Namibia, developed from Dutch brought by 17th-century colonists.
It's one of South Africa's official languages and the first language of many white and mixed-race South Africans.
As an adjective, it describes things related to this language or its speakers: an Afrikaans newspaper, Afrikaans literature.
