ground-glass

Opaque diffusing pane

Ground-glass describes glass whose surface has been abraded to make it translucent rather than transparent, creating a frosted appearance that diffuses light: a ground-glass window in the bathroom, the ground-glass screen of an old camera.

In medical imaging, a ground-glass opacity is a hazy area in the lungs that partially obscures underlying structures, suggesting fluid, inflammation, or other abnormality.
