objective lens
Microscope's front glass
The objective lens is the lens in a microscope or telescope closest to the object being viewed.
It gathers light from the specimen or distant scene and forms the primary image that other lenses then magnify.
In compound microscopes, different objective lenses offer varying magnifications: She rotated the turret to switch to the 40x objective lens.
