blinder

Equine focus aid

Blinders are screens attached to a horse's bridle to restrict side vision, keeping the animal focused on the path ahead.

The metaphor extends to anything that limits perception or awareness: His ambition acted as blinders to the harm he caused.

In British English, a blinder is also an outstanding performance: She played a blinder in the finals.
