tyre

Wheel's rubber skin

A tyre is the rubber covering around a wheel, providing traction and cushioning.

This is the standard British spelling of the word Americans spell "tire": The lorry had a flat tyre.

The spelling distinction applies only to the wheel covering—both varieties spell the verb meaning to grow weary as "tire." (Capitalized Tyre is the ancient Lebanese city.)
