sidewall

Tread-to-rim section

The sidewall is the side surface of something, especially the vertical portion of a tire between the tread and the rim: The sidewall was damaged when I scraped the curb.

Sidewalls also appear in construction—the vertical surfaces of a trench, tunnel, or building cavity.

In pool and billiards, the sidewall is the cushioned rail along the table's edge.
