tyre barrier
Rubber crash buffer
A tyre barrier is a safety structure made from stacked or bundled tyres, used primarily at motorsport circuits to absorb impact when vehicles leave the track.
The tyres, often strapped together and sometimes backed by additional cushioning materials, deform on impact to dissipate energy and reduce injury risk to drivers.
Similar barriers appear at construction sites and road hazards.
The spelling reflects British English; Americans would write tire barrier.
