Crafts printing letters

A typefounder is a person or company that designs and casts metal printing type.

Before digital typography, typefounders created the physical letter forms used in letterpress printing, casting molten metal into molds to produce individual characters.

The craft largely disappeared with the shift to phototypesetting and digital fonts, though some artisan foundries persist.
