torsion bar
Rotating metal rod
A torsion bar is a metal rod that twists under load to absorb shock or provide spring force.
Used in vehicle suspensions, the bar anchors at one end while the other end connects to a moving part; twisting along its length replaces traditional coil or leaf springs.
The truck's torsion bar suspension handled rough terrain well.
