pedicle

Small supporting stalk

A pedicle is a narrow stalk or stem-like structure connecting a larger part to its base.

In anatomy, pedicles are the bony projections that connect the vertebral body to the arch of a vertebra: The surgeon placed screws through the pedicles.

In surgery, a pedicle flap is tissue moved while still attached to its blood supply.

The term appears in botany and zoology for similar connecting structures.
