modulus

Distance from zero

Modulus has two main technical meanings.

In mathematics, it's the absolute value of a number, or the divisor in modular arithmetic: 12 mod 5 equals 2, where 5 is the modulus.

In physics and engineering, it measures a material's response to stress—elastic modulus indicates stiffness, bulk modulus resistance to compression.

The plural is moduli.
