Typed mobile missive
A text message is a short written communication sent between mobile phones or other devices.
The term emerged with SMS technology in the 1990s and now covers messages sent through various apps.
As a verb, to text message (or simply text) is to send such a message: I'll text message you when I arrive.
Often shortened to just text.
