sultanates
Realms of sultans
Sultanates is the plural of sultanate, a territory or state ruled by a sultan—a Muslim sovereign.
The term describes both historical and contemporary political entities: The sultanates of Southeast Asia developed distinct trading cultures.
The Ottoman Empire was the most powerful sultanate in history.
Today, Oman and Brunei remain sultanates.
