Malaysia

Singapore's northern neighbor

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country divided into two regions: Peninsular Malaysia on the Malay Peninsula and East Malaysia on the island of Borneo.

A former British colony, it gained independence in 1957 and formed a federation in 1963.

The country is known for its ethnic diversity—Malay, Chinese, and Indian populations—and its mix of Islamic governance with multicultural society.
