stages
Steps in progression
Stages are distinct phases in a process or development: the stages of grief, stages of cancer, stages of a rocket.
A stage is also a raised platform where performances occur—actors on a stage, a concert stage.
To stage something is to arrange or present it: stage a play, stage a protest, stage a comeback.
The stage refers to the acting profession: She's been on the stage for thirty years.
In compounds, stage appears in stagecoach (a horse-drawn vehicle making scheduled stops) and stage fright (nervousness before performing).
