stopover

Brief journey break

A stopover is a brief stay at an intermediate point during a journey, especially air travel: We had a six-hour stopover in Dubai.

Airlines distinguish stopovers from layovers by duration—stopovers typically exceed 24 hours and may require leaving the airport.

The term also applies to any planned break in travel: We made a stopover in Denver to visit my sister.
