snow fence

Winter drift control

A snow fence is a slatted wooden or plastic barrier erected to control drifting snow.

The fence slows wind, causing snow to accumulate on the lee side rather than blowing across roads, railways, or buildings.

Snow fences are common in open plains and mountain passes where wind-driven snow creates hazards: They put up snow fences along the highway every October.
