Winter's hanging crystals
Icicles are tapering spikes of ice formed when dripping water freezes, typically hanging from eaves, gutters, or rock faces during cold weather.
They grow as successive drips freeze along their length: Icicles hung from the roof like glass daggers.
The word extends to anything similarly shaped or cold.
