sand fence

Beach erosion barrier

A sand fence is a slatted barrier erected to control wind-blown sand, typically along beaches or in desert areas.

The fence slows wind velocity, causing sand to accumulate on the leeward side rather than drifting across roads, paths, or structures.

Sand fences also help stabilize dunes and protect coastal vegetation: The park service installed sand fences to rebuild the eroding dunes.
