The name suggests they slide down easily.
The term originated with White Castle's miniature burgers but now applies to any small sandwich served this way: We ordered a plate of sliders to share.
In other contexts, a slider is a baseball pitch that breaks laterally, or an interface element—a control you drag along a track to adjust values like volume or brightness.
