sinkers
Lead on lines
Sinkers are weights attached to fishing lines to pull bait or lures underwater.
The term extends to anything that sinks: a pitch in baseball that drops sharply as it reaches the batter, or doughnuts dunked in coffee.
In the expression hook, line, and sinker, swallowing the whole fishing rig means believing something completely.
