skeins
Wound fiber bundles
Skeins is the plural of skein, a loosely coiled bundle of yarn or thread wound for storage or sale: She bought three skeins of wool for the sweater.
The word extends to anything similarly arranged or tangled—a skein of geese flying in V-formation, or figuratively, interconnected threads of narrative: the tangled skeins of the plot.
